About this game
“Pirate Riddles,” made for kids ages 7 to 10, gathers a series of short riddles dressed up as a captain’s challenges: encode a message with a pirate alphabet, find a heading with a compass, complete a sequence of sailor’s knots, and guess the treasure from a handful of clues. Each riddle reads like a small one-page challenge, with a clear question and everything a kid needs to solve it without any outside help. There is nothing to hide and nowhere to run around: it is just a notebook a child can solve alone, with family, or in a friendly challenge. The riddles climb gently in difficulty, from a very simple first code to the final riddle that combines several clues to reveal the spot of an imaginary treasure. The answers are gathered at the back, with the reasoning explained step by step so kids understand an answer instead of just being handed it. This notebook works as well for a quiet moment after school as for a vacation activity, and with so many independent riddles it holds up to repeat play. A blank treasure map is included at the back, to fill in once every riddle is solved, so the game keeps going beyond the pages of the notebook.
