About this game

“The Mystery of the Abandoned Lighthouse,” made for kids ages 8 to 12, is a game book to read and solve at the same time: the story moves forward as the reader answers the riddles scattered through the pages. A lighthouse keeper has vanished without a trace, except for a coded notebook and a lantern gone dark. Chapter after chapter, the reader explores the lighthouse, questions the clues she left behind, and must solve a riddle to learn what waits on the next page. There is no wrong answer that blocks the story, only a hint to keep going. Immersion comes before difficulty: the text reads like a real short novel, illustrated, with a real plot and a real ending, while the riddles set the pace without ever interrupting for long. Made for a child who is starting to read alone or for sharing aloud at bedtime, this game book ends with the full solution of the mystery, and the certainty of having truly cracked the case, from the first chapter to the last. Eight short chapters make up the story, each closed by a different riddle, such as a code to decipher, a plan to orient, or a word to rebuild, whose answer literally opens the next page. A detachable clue notebook helps keep track of deductions, and the complete solutions are gathered at the back.
