About this game
“The Island of a Thousand Dangers,” made for kids ages 8 to 12, puts the reader in the shoes of a young sailor whose raft washes up on an island no one has ever mapped, said to hold a thousand surprises for anyone who comes ashore. On every page, a decision changes the course of the story: climb the trail of the gently smoking volcano or follow the river through the jungle, climb down the vine ladder or work around the cliff, share your food with a curious little monkey or save it for later. No two readings are alike: the book offers more than twenty branches and several possible endings, from the raft repaired to the discovery of the island’s secret. The dangers stay at an adventure level: there are obstacles to get around and puzzles to solve, never any violence. This is not a novel to read in one sitting but a real adventure to steer, where every choice counts and going back to try another path is part of the fun. The book already includes the complete story with all of its branches, a map of the island to fill in as you read, and a very simple rules page that shows how to jump from one numbered passage to the next. A blank logbook is included to note the places already explored.
